The rules
Four golfers, one score, every major.
Major Cut is simple to play and brutal to win. Here’s everything you need to know before you put a team in.
Pick four golfers
Every team is exactly four golfers chosen from the tournament field. You can enter more than one team per major — each is a separate £20 entry.
Combined odds over 200/1
Add up your four picks’ outright odds — the total must be greater than 200/1. It stops everyone loading up on the favourites and rewards finding value down the board.
Entries close the night before
The entry window shuts at 23:59 UK time the day before round one. After that the field and odds are locked and no changes can be made.
Lowest combined score wins
Your team score is the sum of your four golfers’ scores to par across all 72 holes. The lowest total takes the pot. Simple as that.
Miss the cut, add ten
This is what makes Major Cut different. If one of your golfers misses the 36-hole cut, their score is frozen at the cut mark and ten shots are added. The same applies to anyone who withdraws or is disqualified mid-tournament — score locked at the moment they walk off, plus ten. There is no worse feeling than watching your longshot bleed to +5 and knowing it’ll count as +15.
A player withdraws before the event
If one of your golfers pulls out after you’ve entered but before their first tee time, we’ll flag your team straight away. You can swap in a replacement (as long as your four still clear 200/1) up to their tee time — or, if you’d rather, we refund your entry in full.
Ties
If two or more teams finish on the same score, they share the prize money for the positions they occupy, split evenly. A tie for first pools first and second place and divides it between the tied teams.
Prize money
How the pot is paid
Every £20 entry goes into the pot for that major, and the whole pot is paid out to the top three teams:
Two or more teams tied for a place share the prize money for the places they occupy, split evenly — a tie for first pools the 70% and 20% and divides it between them.
Fair play & the small print
Major Cut private leagues are members-only competitions among people who know each other, run not-for-profit — 100% of entries are paid back to the winners. You must be 18 or over to take part. If you ever feel your play isn’t fun any more, take a break; see our responsible play page.
